Book - "It was On Fire When I Lay Down On It"
The author of this book totally missed the meaning of the title of his own book!It comes from a joke: Firemen are called to a house with smoke pouring from the window. They break in and find a man in a smouldering bed. They ask him "How did this happen?"
He answers "I don't know. It was on fire when I lay down in it."
The author thinks that this is a case of someone doing something stupid, and is unable to explain why they did it. This whole book is based on that premise. It's about people doing dumb things and not knowing why. And he tells stories about how we all do that.
He has missed the point. The guy in the bed does know what happened - he was smoking in bed (and probably drunk as well) and he set the bed on fire. But, he does not want to take responsibility for setting the bed on fire so he lies! He is saying "It's not my fault... It was on fire when I got into it"
The guy in the bed is just being dishonest!
Stupid book.
I'll throw it out.
