Daily Discard

The Daily Discard is about throwing stuff out. It’s a spiritual quest to simplify life. Each day I find something around the house which is no longer needed, doesn’t work any more, has outlived its purpose or is just plain junk. Then I throw it away or give it away.

Round Rubric's Cube

This round Rubric's Cube is difficult to manipulate because there are no edges to hang on to when you twist it.

Notice that this puzzle has been solved. All the colours are correct. So I have completed it once.

I'll leave it out on the front fence. Someone may have some fun with it.

Brass Jug

Another brass object that's been hanging around the house. This one isn't great quality - so out it goes.

I'll leave it on the front fence.

Corn Pad

Corn pads come in packs of eight. You are supposed to use them every day for eight days. I only used seven and the corn is gone.

One by itself is no good. It's just taking up space in a drawer. So out it goes.

Book - Farts & Fevers

Where did this book come from? And why is it in my bookcase?

Ahhh .. I remember being in this second hand bookshop in Richmond and picking it up for very cheaply.

It's author, Earle Hackett, was a broadcaster on ABC radio so it sounded OK.

I tried, but I'll never read it. It'll go out to the Salvos.

Franz Lehár CD

At Christmas, I was given a new CD of Bach which was wonderful. So my sister-in-law, sure that I like classical music, dragged out the CD of Franz Lehár and gave it to me. She said that she didn't like it and would never listen to it.

I agree with her. I don't like it and would never listen to it. I'll leave it somewhere for someone to find.

Shoes

Don't like them. Never wear them. Throw them out.

Fluffy Dice

I used this dice at a function I helped organise last year. It was used to help people decide which workshop they should attend.

It's wrecked now because of the bits of paper that have been stuck to the 'fluff'.

Out it goes.

Broken Hairbrush

This broke in my hand today.

No, I won't try and glue it back together. I have a number of other hair brushes I can use.

Yellow Pages

Every year they leave a stack of Yellow Pages outside our door. One for each of the flats that share our stairwell.

No one ever seems to claim one. Neither do we. Why would I want one of these huge telephone books, when it is all available on the net?

I've put them out on the nature strip.

Handbag Strap

I'm told that when you buy a ladies handbag, you sometimes get two straps to go with it - a long one and a short one so you have a choice and you can carry it in your hand or sling it over your shoulder.

This is the 'long' strap that's never been used from one of Chris' handbags.

Bags of clothes

Yesterday, Chris and I threw out four garbage bags of clothes!
Here they are in the boot of the car waiting to go to the Salvation Army bin.

Shoes

These shoes are slightly too small. They are a pinch to wear, so I never do.

Out in the Salvo bin.

Brass Incence Holder

Actually, this is only the top part. I don't know where the bottom part is.

It can go. And if I do ever find the bottom half, it can go as well.

Glass Fish

This is Nicole's fish. She has been living in Queensland for some time, and has been visiting recently. She can't take it back with her so we are discarding it. She has put it out on the fence herself.

Clothes

These two shirts and a top and a couple of pairs of pants from Chris are the next items to go to the Salvo's bin.

(How's that? Five items thrown out in one day? It makes up for the days I was away on retreat.)

Sesame Oil

I've been away for a week on a World Peace Assembly meditation course so I the only things I have been discarding is stress and fatigue.

But I did take this bottle of sesame oil with me. It is a great aid to sleep if you massage it into your forehead and temples before bed. I left the remainder of it there.....
