Daily Discard

The Daily Discard is about throwing stuff out. It’s a spiritual quest to simplify life. Each day I find something around the house which is no longer needed, doesn’t work any more, has outlived its purpose or is just plain junk. Then I throw it away or give it away.

Handbag

The strap on Chris' handbag broke today.

She wants to discard it so she emptied it out. This took a while.

I then found another $2.05 in it.

I'm going to put it on the fence next door with a note on it saying "Free Handbag"

Brass Bowl

This brass bowl would probably polish up quite nicely if I had the time and elbow grease.

It's been sitting on top of the fridge for a while. I hope that someone with some brasso finds it.

Fruit Ornaments

These tiny items have been sitting on the window sash in the kitchen. They were there nearly 3 years ago when we moved in the place.
I wonder if anyone will spot them sitting on the fence and take them.

Railway Timetable

I went to Sydney for the weekend recently and came home with this CityRail guide. They give them away for free in Sydney.
I don't need to keep it.

Book - Visual C ++ 6

Another technical book I'll never read.

There is always someone else who could use it.

I'll leave it out.

Cable Ties

Chris did some casual work the other day and came home with these cable ties.

No use to me at the moment. Just the type of thing that would hang around the house for ages.

I'll let someone else have them.

Chair leg stopper

This is a stopper that goes in the end of a mettle tube chair leg. What are the chances that I will ever have a chair that needs a replacement stopper? - Nil.

"Out damn stopper!"

Bell on a ribbon

Why's this thing hanging round?

It's a small bell. On a red ribbon.

Why was it put in a small drawer and kept?

There is no good answer.

It doesn't need to be kept any longer.

Ganesh

Two of the four arms on this statuette are missing.

It's not good to keep an imperfect deity hanging around. I have quite a few other Ganesh statues around, so I don't need this one.

Mug

This mug is chipped (although you can't see it in the photo).

Out with the imperfection!

Towels

These towels look OK, thick and fluffy, but they are terrible to use. They don't absorb anything so are useless for drying yourself.

We bought some new ones yesterday -very cheaply.

These will go in the Salvation Army bin. They may be useful as rags.

Star Mobile

We have had a friend staying at our place for the last few days after she had a car accident.

The car is a write off, but before she sold it as scrap, she salvaged this hanging mobile that she bought 4 years ago. It was intended as a gift, but has been sitting in the car in it's original packing all this time.

She doesn't want to take it to her next destination, so now's the time to blog it and get rid of it.

I'll hang it in a tree outside.

Massage Tool

The knobbly wheels on this make it a novel experience to be massaged using this thing.

Someone may get a thrill from using it if they find it and take it from the front fence.

Wooden Beads

Don't know where this bracelet of wooden beads came from, but is is not needed.
Out on the front fence for someone to find.

Belt

My belt broke today. It was a nice belt that Chris bought for me.

I'll have to buy a new one at the market on Wednesday.

Objects Returned!

Yesterday someone actually returned some stuff that had been left out.

The oil burner left out on Thursday November 9th and the plastic cups left out Sunday the 15th October were both returned to the fence post!

They were gone again soon after.

Glass Jar

Another object where no-one knows where it came from.

It has been used to keep cotton buds, but has been hiding at the back of a cupboard for a while now.

So out it goes - on the fence outside. Someone will find it.

Mobile Phone Earpiece

I no longer have the phone that this fits.

It doesn't need to take up my space.

Memory

At least one of these is faulty. I don't need to risk trying them again. I wonder of someone will want them if left outside.

Oil Burner

This cheap oil burner has a serious design flaw. When you put water and oil in the bowl part, then light the candle, it gets so hot that the water boils. Then boils dry and burns the oil.
Doesn't work well.
I'll leave it out the front of the house. Someone will take it.

Feugreek Herbal Tea

I bought some 'different' types of herbal tea to try out.

This fenugreek is horrid.

Out in the bin it goes.

Empty Box

This box contained a USB memory stick that I was given. Great memory stick - but I don't need the box any more.

Fitness Video

I don't know where this Claudia Schiffer Perfectly Fit Total Body Workout video came from. It's a two Volume set.

It's unlikely that I would ever use it.

Someone in St Kilda may use it - possibly as soft porn.

Information Pack about a Phone

When I bought a mobile phone in 1997 I was given this pack of brochures and things.

I haven't had this phone for some years. Time to throw out the pack.

Foldable Hair Brush

I carry this hairbrush with me. It folds down and fits in a back pocket.

Unfortunately the rubber part is rotting away.

It'll have to go out in the bin.

Novel - Dead Famous by Ben Elton

Once you have read one Ben Elton book, you have read them all. The first couple were good. But I couldn't get past the first few pages of this dreary thing.

I'll put it out in the Salvation Army bin.

Keys

These tiny keys are to an unknown lock.

No use.

Gone now.

More Pebbles

Back on Thursday last week I threw out a single pebble. I thought, at the time, that this was the only one in the house. Since then, some other pebbles have come to light. They where hiding in a goblet somewhere. Chris new where they were, but I didn't.

So they will follow their lonely mate and be discarded as well.
